The International Standards for Technology in Education provide three separate standards. One set of standards are for technology coaches, another for classroom teachers, and yet another for students. The ISTE standards are great tools for all three classification of people in education.

ITEEA Standards

Formerly ITEA, the ITEEA Standards provide national standards to technology education classes. As technology education classes are about as diverse from district to district and state to state, than any other subject; the standards and benchmarks provide guided information. This publication divides the standards by grade level and by technology topic. Here is part of the foreword from the publication. "We are a nation increasingly dependent on technology. Yet, in spite of this dependence, US society is largely ignorant of the history and fundamental nature of the technology that sustains it."

Living, learning, and working in the 21st century provides new challenges and endless possibilities. A shift of thinking and doing is evident as years roll by. To provide the best possible education and training for our students for today's world, integrating technology is crucial. Using new technology for the sake of using technology will not be the goal, but a starting point. Stay tuned for more in depth information on redefining education through technology in the SAMR model.
